Pete the Puzzle Piece

Original book art, two websites, a live adventure map, and a Book Fair for a children's book series.

Pete the Puzzle Piece — Liz A. Pitman

Pete the Puzzle Piece is a children's book series by Liz A. Pitman. The message is simple: you are loved, you are valuable, and you have a place in God's big picture. Kids carry Pete on trips, schools invite Liz A. Pitman to read, and families keep coming back for new books. We have worked with Liz A. Pitman since 2021, on the books, the website, and the pieces that let the brand grow past a shop.

The Artwork

The books carry original artwork. Outside the three Adventure Series books, illustrated by Jane Brobst, our founder KC Clark illustrated or designed everything in the Pete world, including I Am Special: An Interactive Journal. That art sets the tone for everything else we make for Pete, from the site to the catalog.

The Adventure Map

Families take Pete on their travels and send in where he went. That used to live in a spreadsheet add-on that was hard to keep running. We replaced it with a map built for Pete.

  • A small script reads each new entry, finds it on the map, and refreshes on its own.
  • The map shows only the city, state, and country. Addresses never leave the sheet.
  • Every pin is a little running Pete. Counters at the top add up adventures, places, and countries.
  • A "Share your Pete adventure" button sends kids straight to the form to add the next pin.

It went live in October 2026 and works on a phone as well as a laptop.

The Book Fair

We designed a Book Fair page so Liz A. Pitman can take Pete's message into schools, with an easy way for parents to order signed books before a reading day. There are two paths that land in the same place.

  • A printed catalog. Ten pages that go home in backpacks: the books, the bundles, a page about the author, answers to common questions, and an order form for cash or check. School names and dates swap in quickly for the next school.
  • A Book Fair page. Parents who would rather order online pick their books on the site and choose pickup at the school. Liz A. Pitman signs each one with the child's name.

The Website

We built the current Squarespace site at petethepuzzlepiece.com, and the WordPress site before it. We care for it month to month: updates, health checks, and a search plan that covers tracking, page titles, and pages built around the questions parents actually search. A full refresh is underway, with a lighter look that keeps Pete's bold red and blue for the moments that matter.

Outcome

Pete now has a home that does more than sell books. Kids can see their own trip on a world map. Schools have a ready-made way to bring the author in and get signed books home. And the site has a partner keeping it healthy while the next version takes shape.
